Retention
Retention in three levels
A duty holster has to hold the pistol when someone else pulls at it, and release it when the officer draws. Safariland expresses this in levels: each level is one more lock.
- Level I, ALS: the pistol locks in as soon as it is holstered; the thumb releases it.
- Level II, SLS: a hood over the pistol that the officer rotates away with the thumb.
- Level III: ALS and SLS together in one holster, as on the 7360.
